Care & Conservation

Preventive and restorative conservation of art works or paintings is needed to safeguard them from the onslaught of climate,enviroment ,humidity,sunlight,insects,fungus etc. Since the materials from which the articles are made is subject to deterioration over a period of time.proper storage of paintings be arranged in such a way that the same are not exposed to direct sunlight,heat,cold,humidity, weathering etc.as under:

Storage & transport:

Usage of ultraviolet filtered glass for framed paintings.
Antitermite chemical treatment at regular intervals.
Leaning stretched canvas paintings against flat surface.
Dusting from top to bottom at regular period.
Handling the paintings carefully preferably with both hands.
Proper packing before transportation so as to avoid damage in transi.
Cleaning:

Paintings may be hung on sturdy studs or nails capable of sustaining the weight.
Art on paper be framed with protective glass.
If the mold is found on a framed piece immediately remove and air it.
For ideal conditions use airconditioning to avoid damage due to variation in temperature & *  humidity.
If the painting show damages consult immediately experienced conservator or artist for repairs.
Keep storage and display area dust free.
Dusting when required should be done with soft and dry cloth and from top to bottom.
Damages to the paintings could be torns , punture , distortion,curls,warps,flaking paints etc.repairs  to such damaged painting is a highly skilled process and should only be carried out by qualified  conservator.
